The new viral video was created by TikTok account @Macca's_Myths, which answers social media users’ most asked questions about McDonald's.

In the footage, the worker says both sliced onions and rehydrated onions are used in fast food giant's burgers.

"At Macca's, we have two types of onions," the TikTok user said.

"Large onions which have been cut up and dehydrated onions."

He went on to explain that the dehydrated onions, which come in a packet, are soaked in water overnight in a large container with a lid.

"[They are] drained and put into onion shakers," the Macca's workers explained.

7NEWS.com.au understands that the McDonald's uses its famous rehydrated onions in Cheeseburgers, Hamburgers and Big Macs across all restaurants globally.

All other Macca's buys with onions, including the Quarter Pounder, use fresh, locally-sourced onions.

In 2020, McDonald's Australia purchased 1.5 million kilograms of locally-sourced onions as part of its commitment to supporting the Australian agriculture industry.

Many TikTok users agreed that one type of onion was their preferred option.

"I way prefer the diced onions over slivered," said one.

Added another: "Those dehydrated onions hit differently."

Said a third: "I rehydrate onion flakes for my burgers at home because my kids say it ‘tastes just like McDonald's!’"

Wrote one more: "The diced onions taste so good though."
