Oakland County Restaurant Quest: Shangri-La in West Bloomfield

West Bloomfield, MI – Shangri-La restaurant has been serving up authentic Cantonese cuisine to West Bloomfield for over 15 years.

To get the best taste I ordered a few things. For the main dish I had braised beef brisket with ginger and scallion lo mein. This was a flavorful dish packed with noodles and beef in a sweet ginger sauce.

The BBQ pork in rice roll was an interesting appetizer with a fluffy rice wrap.

The coconut pudding came baked in three little saucers.

The crispy durian pastry also came as a trio, with two-bite sized pieces of buttery, flaky crust filled with the unique tasting durian fruit inside.

The garlic chives pancakes were little circles of dough filled with green onion and garlic.

And, my personal favorite, the sesame balls also came in a set of three. These balls of rice dough are filled with a sweet bean filling and coated with sesame seeds that brown to perfection upon frying. Everything was delectable and seemed to be made with care.

The menu is packed with Chinese and Taiwanese options, including taro root and Chinese sausage in hot pot, squid with shrimp paste and spicy salt, Singapore rice vermicelli, wanton soup, kung pao shrimp and much much more.

There is also an impressive selection of Dim Sum, including baked bbq pork bun, steamed sweet lotus pate bun, curried baby squid, parsley and scallop kau, fried meat dumpling and more.

It's easy to come away with Sharngri-La with an assortment of foods in taste-able portions. The restaurant is beautifully decorated for an immersive Cantonese dining experience, and carryout is also an easy option. Shangri-La is located at 6407 Orchard Lake Rd, West Bloomfield Township, MI 48322.
